First Unitarian Church, located in the Rittenhouse neighborhood in Center City, hosts concerts, theater performances, orchestras and more in their various rooms. Commonly referred to as “The Church”, this venue is most well-known for the punk, hardcore and indie shows hosted in the Griffin Hall basement.

How can I purchase tickets?
Tickets are available online for purchase through the bookers, or if a show is not sold out, you can purchase tickets at the door (cash).
How can I get to the venue?
There may be limited paid spots or lots near the venue, or free parking further out.
The closes SEPTA stops are:
- Various bus routes (7, 9, 12, 17, 21, 42, 48)
- 22nd St (T1, T2, T4, T5 Trolley)
How do I enter the venue? What is the process?
There is a staircase to the right of the First Unitarian Church that descends into the venue.
Your tickets will be checked upon entering the venue, and you’ll receive a stamp or wristband.
You will then enter the main venue room, where the stage is on the left. If you continue straight, there’s a small set of stairs that leads up to the bathroom.
Is there a bag policy? What can I bring to the venue?
There is no set bag policy for shows in The Church basement.
You can bring in your own food and drink.
Is the venue standing only? Are there ADA accommodations?
This venue is standing only, and requires descending a set of stairs to enter the venue.

Is there an ATM?
No. The closest ATM can be found at a nearby bodega.
Is there a bar?
No, but you can BYOB (21+). No glass bottles!
Is there food or a restaurant on premises? If not, where can I eat?
There is no food served, though there may be snacks for purchase in the room where they check your tickets.
The Church is close to many great restaurants in Center City where you can eat prior to or after the show.
Is there a water station/fountain?
There is no water fountain, but water may be available for purchase from the room where they check your tickets.
You can also bring in your own water.
Where are the bathrooms?
The bathrooms are up a small set of stairs to the right of the venue room (if you’re facing the stage).
Where can I buy merch?
Merch stands are often set up at the back of the venue room.
The Church is a great venue to check out if you like small and intimate performances, and the vibes of a DIY basement show without the awkwardness of entering somebody’s house. If you’re a fan of punk, emo, or hardcore shows, this room is legendary for its lively crowds.
It can get quite toasty down there, especially in the summer,
